SIROLaser®

The SIROLaser® is an advanced soft tissue dental laser manufactured by Dentsply Sirona, one of the world’s leading dental technology companies. Unlike traditional dental instruments such as scalpels and drills, the SIROLaser® uses precisely focused light energy to cut, shape, and treat soft tissue in the mouth. The laser simultaneously cauterizes and sterilizes as it works, which means less bleeding, reduced risk of infection, and faster healing compared to conventional methods. At Bonham Sunshine Dental & Implant Center, Dr. Kajuri Ramchand uses the SIROLaser® across a wide range of periodontic, endodontic, and cosmetic procedures to provide patients with a more comfortable treatment experience.

Most patients find laser dental procedures significantly more comfortable than traditional treatments. The SIROLaser® emits short, controlled pulses of light energy that are often too brief to trigger a pain response in the nerve. As a result, many procedures performed with the SIROLaser® can be completed with little or no anesthesia. Patients who typically experience dental anxiety often report feeling more relaxed during laser procedures because the treatment eliminates the sounds, vibrations, and pressure associated with drills and scalpels. After the procedure, patients generally experience less post-operative pain and swelling than they would with conventional methods.

In many cases, no. One of the primary advantages of the SIROLaser® is that many soft tissue procedures can be performed without injections or anesthesia. The laser’s short light pulses work so quickly that they often do not generate enough sustained heat to trigger a pain response. However, the need for anesthesia depends on the specific procedure, the treatment area, and your individual sensitivity. For more extensive work or procedures involving deeper tissue, Dr. Ramchand may still recommend a local anesthetic to ensure your complete comfort. She will discuss this with you before any treatment begins.

Periodontal disease involves bacterial infection below the gumline that damages gum tissue and the bone supporting your teeth. The SIROLaser® allows Dr. Ramchand to precisely target and remove infected gum tissue while leaving healthy tissue intact. As the laser operates, it simultaneously kills bacteria in the treated area and seals blood vessels, which reduces bleeding and promotes faster healing. Laser-assisted periodontal treatment can be used alongside scaling and root planing to decontaminate gum pockets more thoroughly than manual instruments alone. For patients with moderate gum disease, this approach can help reduce pocket depths and improve gum health with less discomfort and a shorter recovery period.

Yes. The SIROLaser® is an FDA-cleared device that has been widely used in dental practices for soft tissue procedures. The laser is precisely calibrated to target only the tissue being treated without affecting surrounding healthy tissue. Protective eyewear is worn by both the patient and the dental team during the procedure as a standard safety precaution. Laser dentistry has been practiced for decades, and diode lasers like the SIROLaser® have an extensive safety record in clinical use. Dr. Ramchand is trained in the proper application of laser technology and will determine whether a laser-assisted approach is appropriate for your treatment.

Recovery after laser treatment is typically faster than after conventional surgery. Because the SIROLaser® cauterizes tissue as it works, there is less bleeding during the procedure and less swelling afterward. Many soft tissue laser procedures do not require stitches, which eliminates a follow-up visit to have them removed. Most patients return to normal activities the same day or the day after treatment. Some mild tenderness at the treatment site is normal for the first day or two and can usually be managed with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication. Dr. Ramchand will provide specific aftercare instructions based on your procedure.

Both the SIROLaser® and the BIOLASE® Waterlase® are dental lasers available at Bonham Sunshine Dental & Implant Center, but they use different technologies and are suited for different applications. The SIROLaser® is a diode laser designed primarily for soft tissue procedures such as gum treatment, gum recontouring, root canal disinfection, and oral lesion treatment. The BIOLASE® Waterlase® uses a combination of laser energy and water spray, which allows it to work on both hard tissue (tooth structure and bone) and soft tissue. Dr. Ramchand selects the appropriate laser based on the specific procedure and the type of tissue being treated. Having both lasers available means our office can offer laser-assisted options for a wider range of dental treatments.

Absolutely. Laser dentistry is one of the most anxiety-friendly advances in modern dental care. The SIROLaser® eliminates many of the elements that cause dental fear: there is no high-pitched drill sound, no vibration, no scalpel, and in many cases no needle for anesthesia.
